“Slovenian Oral Traditions: Lecture by Dr. Barbara Ivancic Kutin

Date

This event was held on Thursday, June 2, 2011.

Description

In this lecture, Dr. Barbara Ivancic Kutin of the Institute of Slovene Ethnology, Ljubljana, shared some of the stories that have emerged from her study and documentation of Slovenian oral traditions .

Dr. Kutin’s research involves the collection and recording of different types of stories and tales told by Slovenians from generation to generation. All relate to the Slovenian homeland and can be in the form of fairy tales, animal fables, finger plays, humorous adult songs, lullabies, proverbs, mythical beings, one or two sentence sayings, and so on, written or narrated in English or Slovenian. As part of her visit and talk, Dr. Kutin encouraged members of Cleveland’s Slovene community to contribute to her research by sharing, in an interview setting, stories and tales that have been shared with them.
