“Idria Lace”

Date

This exhibit premiered on June, February 8, 2017.

Description

For centuries, the delicate bobbin lace made in the city of Idrija, in west central Slovenia, has been synonymous with quality and prestige. The deeply rooted values that are expressed in Idrija lace are highly discernable and alluring. Lacemaking in Slovenia dates back to the sixteenth century, and the craft was brought to Idrija by the wives of emigrants from German and Czech lands who came to work in the city’s mercury mines.

This exhibition was held in honor of Fran Coberly (1942–2017).
