“To the Promised Land: Slovenian Women in America”

Date

This exhibit premiered on Friday, February 7, 2018.

Description

Staged during Cleveland Kurentovanje 2018, To the Promised Land: Slovenian Women in America explored the personal narratives of fourteen Slovenian women who found a new home in the US, including Antonia Höffern, the first Slovene woman who came to America, and many others who followed in her footsteps. In this exhibition, the stories of immigrant women—which are often untold or pushed to the margins—were presented so that their courage, audacity, fights against prejudice, and work to preserve Slovene identity and culture in a far-off land will not be forgotten.

To the Promised Land was curated by the National and University Library in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
